Canyon House

Spent half of my day trying to quickly put together this scene for a friend. He needed some meshes for an OpenGL assignment or something, I volunteered to make one on short notice.

There's a few things I'll probably change. Most of the shadows are just softly baked into the diffuse, and I'd like to add a little bit more contact shadows between objects to help.

This was rendered in Marmoset, diffuse only, and about 1000 tris total for the scene. Below is the initial sketch of the scene.

Small Robot Update

Just some small updates here for the small robot. Everything is now unwrapped and I tweaked a little bit with the textures, adding in some bump as well.

It's nice that the bump utility shader is now visible by default in 3ds max 2013. :)

Robot - Update 2

This is the second robot to go with the first one.
So I made this little guy today. The base metal texture is getting closer to what I want it to be, the old, dirty paint shader on the other hand still needs a lot of tweaking. I'm sure it will help when I finish making the normal maps for them.
Current textures are just placeholder and just because I felt like it.

Robot

Here's a work in progress for a project I recently started. And it's not 2d, woo! :)
This character is inspired off the robot in my last post.

Slowly feeling my way around this character, lots of things are changing as I go as I think about how this robot will realistically articulate. I've been making drawings of how I want to create the eye, and the longer I look at it the more complex the eye mechanism gets.

I'm applying shaders as I go along, just so I can constantly test and improve upon the shaders I'm using.

 Stay tuned for more updates!
